CBP officers in Los Angeles seized a shipment of imported unsafe mattresses that were falsely documented and did not meet U.S. flammability standards. Consumer Product Safety officials tested and confirmed CBP's findings.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announces new way of processing international trade that will help foreign-made products enter the country faster, identify unsafe and counterfeit products better and use more modern and efficient processing approaches. The new techniques will begin processing trade by an account based approach rather than an a transaction by transaction approach. CBP is developing 10 unique Centers of Excellence and Expertise that will specifically handle the 10 major categories of international commodities. The centers will greatly increase the level of communications with legitimate importers and manufacturers to better facilitate their products entering the U.S. and work with them to help stop counterfeit and unsafe products from entering the U.S.
